travel in march

I am travelling from Australia to Sugar Hill for a 4 day course in March, and I wonder about the best way to travel from Manchester Airport to Sugar Hill. Is public transport available? If I hire a car, what would the roads be like at this time of year? Does anyone know approximately how long it takes to drive (not counting stops). What are the best things to stop at along the way?

Thanks in advance for any input!

Not sure about public transport but if there is, it may take longer than the trip to Mancherster, NH. Best thing to do is contact the innkeeper.

The drive is probably 2 hours. It is all main roads so they should be clear unless you land in a blizzard.

What kind of stops are you looking for? There are lots of places off the beaten path but would not think you want to do that after the long trip here and depending on time, etc.

It%26#39;s about 160km and should take about 2 hours. Weather is anyone%26#39;s guess at that time of year. Best to rent a vehicle and drive yourself. The state does a very good job keeping the roads plowed in the event of snow but if you are worried, I would rent a 4 wheel drive.

Thanks all for the advice. I thought it was just me not being good at internet searches that gave me no luck in the public transport realm.

I have looked at hiring a car, but find it difficult to understand the insurance system over there. In Australia we insure the car with third party person (who you run over( and property (their car etc) and also for damage/theft to your own car. It covers anyone driving the insure car.

In Britain one insures the driver, almost regardless of the car they drive. It looks as though it is similar but not the same in the US. Is anyone able to explain?

Thanks,

Try checking with your credit card on the car rental as far as insurance. March can still bring some very tricky driving in Franconia Notch and it is all up hill and curvy to get to Sugar Hill so be sure your vehicle is good in the snow. Ask before you rent- front wheel drive. Drive time is about 2 hours or so. But again be careful going through the Notch if we have had any precip-it can turn to ice so quickly. Be sure to hike the Flume Gorge in Franconia Notch.

Absolutely check with your credit card company or your own vehicle insurance policy to see what insurance is provided for rentals. You will be asked if you want insurance at the rental office. You can accept or waive/decline. If you accept then you pay a per day charge for the coverage which will include any possible deductibles. If you decline, then you are relying solely on your own insurance coverage and if there is a deductible, then you will be personally responsible.

It is probably the same in Australia, but just to be clear, the rental company will require that only you drive the vehicle. You can have additional drivers if you inform the rental company and that person%26#39;s driver%26#39;s license is added to the contract. There can also be age restrictions on driver%26#39;s (21 minimum). So, ask questions, better to spend a couple of extra dollars for peace of mind especially when you are traveling to another country.

I hope that I am not stating the obvious but just want to make sure that your trip is as smooth as possible. No one wants a surprise bill when you are traveling abroad.
