November/December Trip for Polar Express

We live in New JErsey and have a son, 5, who loves The Polar Express. I saw online that the movie is recreated on the train in NH, and I would really like for my husband, son, and I to make the trip Thanksgiving weekend. We have never been to New England, so please forgive what is probably a dumb question: how much snow do you typically have in the Jackson, NH area around THanksgiving? Will be able to drive from NJ to NH? We don%26#39;t have an SUV just a plain old four cylinder car.

I really want us to experience the Polar Express train, Santa%26#39;s Village, and sleigh rides; I think it would make for family memories that will last forever.

Do you think we will be able to make the drive? Thanks for any advice!

November/December Trip for Polar Express

Oh, absolutely you will be able to make the drive. My mother lives in the White Mountains, and drives a Honda Civic. The roads are very well maintained in the winter, so even when there is snow, the roads are clear (unless, for some reason, there%26#39;s a big snowstorm on the very day you%26#39;re driving).

Amount of snow at Thanksgiving varies - sometimes there%26#39;s very little, sometimes more. Most years when I%26#39;ve been home for the holidays we%26#39;ve seen a few flurries - just enough to make it pretty.

Have a wonderful time on the Polar Express!!

Agree with Yankee... you should not have any trouble that time of year. The trick however may be getting tickets. They%26#39;ve become very popular. If you can%26#39;t get tickets directly, there are often tickets sold on craigslist. Of course, you want to proceed with caution if you but from a stranger.

The Polar Express is run on 2 trains. The second leaves from Lincoln which is an easier drive. Here is the link

As I looked, I noticed it runs in December, so I am unsure that it is available Thanksgiving weekend.

before you finalize plans make sure you are able to get tickets for the polar express, you have to be entered into a lottery to be able to buy tickets. Also in all honesty its not worth the drive from NJ ive been on it myself and was very disapointed

Bah Humbug!!! But what did your 5 yo think of it?

Jackson is very beautiful and it%26#39;s worth the drive. There is a lot to do in this area so come up and have fun!

ethansmom,

Try the lottery and if that fails, many inn%26#39;s, b%26amp;b%26#39;b, etc will provide tickets for the express if you stay with them. Many of them are listed at

jacksonnh.com and other c of c web sites.
