My husband and I are looking for a modest place this summer with plenty for children to do nearby. We are two, and will be with our daughter and family and son and family. Our grandchildren are ages 6, 4, and 1 1/2.

It would be a plus if pets were allowed, as my daughter and I both have dogs.

But the main thing is to relax and enjoy being together.

Any suggestions?

I am giving everyone the same suggestion. Our family has rented summer cottages at Sebago Lake now for 50 years (several generations) We absolutely love the Lake. It is kind of quiet, old fashioned family oriented but within an easy drive of 1 hour or less to many attractions. The White Mountains of NH and North Conway are about 1 hour away with shopping outlets, train rides, Story Land, etc. Portlant, Me - located on the ocean has lighthouses, lobsters, art museum and a children%26#39;s museum right downtown perfect for your kids ages. Sebago is located in the Lakes Region with nearby Naples being the spot for mini golf, boat rides etc. There is even a Drive In Theater nearby. We always have used a family owned rental agency located right there on the lake. Just use Jordanrentals.com. I am sure they can find you a place that will take dogs and they do have several large Maine Cottages to rent. Give it a try.
