Restaurants in Manchester

Going to be in Manchester in a couple weeks. Staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. Can you suggest a good restaurant (not chains) that we could have an inexpensive dinner?

Restaurants in Manchester

It%26#39;s not fine dining, but my husband and I like a good, casual, inexpensive meal at Hart%26#39;s Turkey Farm. They now have a location in Manchester (the original is in Meredith). They have a very nice traditional turkey dinner (like Thanksgiving) as well as a bunch of other turkey offerings. In addition, they have beef, seafood, etc. You can view the full menu on their website: http://www.hartsturkeyfarm.com/

Thanks, I%26#39;ve been to the original in Meredith but it%26#39;s been years.

There must be better choices. A few years ago we stopped at Harts in Meredith. We were so disappointed, after all the hype this place gets it was such a let down. The ';soup'; was a watery bowl of mostly water, no turkey and ';carrot'; that looked like what is scraped off before you cook them. The staff was very unprofessional, the Hostess wore a baggy pink jogging suit and took forever to seat us even though they were not busy. There are better places in Manchester, visit the Chamber of Commerce web site for other ideas.

What type of food do you like? Manchester has undergone somewhat of a revival in the past 10 years or so... If you like ethnic food, there is pretty much everything you can imagine downtown... Pub food, Strangebrew or The Wild Rover. Cheap eats, the Red Arrow is a nationally recognized diner. Italian, Piccola Italia, Gauchos is a Brazilian steakhouse. You won%26#39;t have any problem finding something to eat along Elm St. or one of the side streets. There are so many places to eat, it is hard ot give a recommendation without knowing what you are looking for.

We%26#39;re looking for pub fair, Italian or a good steak house.

I know you are looking for dinner places but two of my favorite breakfast places are in the Manchester area:

The Bedford Inn

and

Jewell %26amp; the Beanstalk

BTW- You might want to post in the Manchester forum to get a few more replies.

I mentioned some of these before.

For Pub fair try either Strangebrew, http://www.strangebrewtavern.net/

or the Wild Rover,http://www.wildroverpub.com/

and if there is a baseball game going on (Your hotel overlooks the field) go down to the Patio at the Hilton and eat there and watch the minor league Fishercats game. You can also try tje Shashkeen http://www.theshaskeen.com/

If you like Steak, try Gaucho%26#39;s Brazilian steakhouse, http://www.gauchosbraziliansteakhouse.com/

I think it is about $25 per person, but you will be full of steak for a awhile, its all you can eat as well. The Hanover St. Chophouse is good too, but is pricey http://www.hanoverstreetchophouse.com/

There are a few different Italian places, Piccola Italia, http://www.piccolaitalianh.com/ Fratello%26#39;s http://www.fratellos.com/.

I’m sorry that newenglandweaver disagrees so vehemently with my recommendation. I’ve been many times and never had a bad experience. Like I said, it’s a casual restaurant and I’m not the kind of person who would let the outfit of the hostess affect my enjoyment! Each time we’ve been to the original and to Manchester we’ve gotten a good meal at a fair price. It’s CASUAL dining and INEXPENSIVE. No, it’s not 5 star dining but not sure anyone would expect it to be for the price.

Anyway, just trying to offer my suggestion. There are lots of restaurants in Manchester running the gamut of price ranges. I’m sure you’ll find something to suit your tastes. Personally, I’ve never been too impressed by the restaurants here and stick to the less expensive places so I’m not disappointed. I save up my more expensive meals for when I’m traveling or “south of the border” in Mass. Hope you enjoy your trip!

Thanks, I don%26#39;t know how this ended up in the Jackson forum. It%26#39;s not even near Manchester. LOL

I just stayed at the Hilton Garden Inn a week ago friday for the ';Stars on Ice'; show at the Verizon Center. It%26#39;s GREAT there. I know you%26#39;ll like it there as much as I did. There was a baseball game that night, we saw them practicing. What a beautiful ballpark, I want to go back there to a game some day. We had a room overlooking the park. It%26#39;s really pretty nice there, for the $$ you can%26#39;t beat it. We got the AAA deal, so it was 89 a night, not bad at all.

For dinner we made reservations at Piccola%26#39;s Italian Ristorante on Elm Street. It%26#39;s one of my favorite Italian restaurants in the whole state. The owners are from Italy %26amp; East Boston, you can%26#39;t get any more Italian than that! Here%26#39;s their site to check it out:

The beauty of staying at the Hilton Garden Inn is not only do they have a beautiful ball park and patio where you can view the various baseball games, but they also have a free shuttle van service that you can take from the hotel right to Elm Street for dinner and/or show or shopping wherever you want to go. I%26#39;d stay there again in a heart beat. My friends had their trusty GPS (the tom tom one) with them, so we were able to find Home Goods %26amp; Marshall%26#39;s only a few exits up. It was SO awesome finding those stores with that neat tool. Now I%26#39;m on a mission to get a GPS for myself. I didn%26#39;t think it would come in handy at all, but it helped us immensely.

We didn%26#39;t think Piccola%26#39;s was too expensive, there%26#39;s several restaurants in Manchester that you could try that are all quite good %26amp; reasonable.

Hope you have a wonderful time there. It%26#39;s SO built up thru downtown Manchester now. We couldn%26#39;t believe the difference from years ago, wait till you see it now thru there!

  1. I would recommend Grado or Italian Ristorante as really great restaurants in Manchester, really there is so much choice available it depends on what kind of cuisine you're looking for.
