My family and I are traveling to Portsmouth for a few days in August. I have two young children (1 and 3 yrs old) that love new things. We want to make sure we see the best that Portsmouth has to offer. Any suggestions would be great! Also, any restaurants we should need to go to? We%26#39;re staying at the Hilton Garden Inn. Thanks!

Go to the %26#39;Theater in the Park%26#39; at Prescott Park It is a great place in the summer and your hotel is within walking distance to the park (This year they will be performing Grease). It is located across the street from Strawberry Banke. Pack up a picnic meal or bring a pizza an enjoy a family friendly show.(They also offer a concession stand) The charge a $5.00 donation and it is a wonderful family event.
Unfortunately the Portsmouth Children%26#39;s Museum moved to Dover but I would still recommend the 20 minute drive to visit The Children%26#39;s Museum of New Hampshire. I would also suggest going to Odiorne State Park in the next town over in Rye, NH and you can visit the Sea Science center while visiting the park. Your children might enjoy York%26#39;s Wild Animal Kingdom. I would also suggest taking a day trip to Ogunquit, ME or Boston.
For Restaurants, there a lot of family friendly places to eat. I like to go to Muddy River for BBQ (It is very family friendly- They give the kids Wikki-Stix to play with along with carrot sticks, celery sticks and peanut butter to nibble on). I also like to go to Newicks for lobster, it is on your way towards Dover.
Enjoy!

Previous poster gave great recs...check out the play in Prescott Park for sure, and go to Dover for the Children%26#39;s Museum. I would go to Maine as well for York%26#39;s Wild animal Kingdom and I would check out Nubble Lighthouse, too. Ordiorne State Park is lovely, and a drive up and down Route 1B/1A is highly recommended as well!
I would recommend Muddy River BBQ for kids, and the Portsmouth Gaslight or Brewery is kid friendly during the day.
Definitely go to the Children%26#39;s Museum in Dover. While in Dover, check out LaFesta Pizza. Great pizza and kids love it!
All the suggestions given so far are great! Here is another - I take my two grandchildren (2 and 3) to a wonderful park in New Castle called Great Island Common. It is beautiful, right on the ocean with an amazing toddler playground, picnic tables under shady trees, sandy beach with gentle waves and clean restrooms. It is probably only 4 or 5 miles from your hotel. Kids get in free and it is $3 for adults I believe. We just spent the entire day there this past Tuesday during an unseasonal hot spell. It is usually 10 degrees cooler there as it is on a point. It is the place to go on a hot August day.
And if you%26#39;re looking for other kid-friendly places to eat in Portsmouth, don%26#39;t forget Flatbread%26#39;s brick oven pizza on Congress Street - pick your own toppings and watch as they prepare the pizzas in the open kitchen. Me %26amp; Ollie%26#39;s is a good casual sandwich shop off of Market Square. Or on a sunny day pick up Moe%26#39;s Italian sandwiches and take a picnic to Prescott Park overlooking the Piscataqua River.
