New England & Canada road trip

My wife %26amp; I are planning 5 weeks in NE USA %26amp; Canada, visitng New York, New England (for the fall colours), PEI, Quebec, Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto, Niagara falls, Amish country, Washington DC. Is this reasonable or are we trying to do too much. We don%26#39;t want to be too rushed, but as we are unlikely to be back we want to see as much as possible of this area.

Suggestions %26amp; comments would be greatly appreciated.

(We are from Australia)

New England %26amp; Canada road trip

Where are you flying into? I am assuming you are flying out of the same airport so you trip has to be a circle. You certainly are trying to cover alot of ground. How much time to you want to spend getting to whereever you are going vs the amount of time actually spent at your destination. Are you planning on taking a ';breather'; and spending any significant time in one place. Do you like to hike, walk, visit museums, etc.

You need to give us some idea of what you find relaxing.

I will say that depending on what 5 weeks you will be traveling you may want to consider traveling North to South.

With 5 weeks, I think you have plenty of time. You really only need a few days in Quebec City and Montreal, and really only a full day in Ottawa. If you spend a few days in each place, you can definitely do it!

We are flying in and out of Ney York (got a great deal on Qantas!) in 6 Sept out 13 Oct. Apart from the first few days in NY, nothing is planned so we%26#39;ll start to do some more detailed planning.

Thanks for your help.

If you%26#39;re visiting New England to see the fall colours, then you%26#39;ll want to save it for the end of your trip, since the colours don%26#39;t peak until October.

In other words, you should probably start by going south from NYC to Amish Country and DC; then up through Niagara Falls, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec, before heading down into New England and finally NYC.

You might want to consider cutting out PEI, since it would add a lot of driving time to your trip. Spend more time in Maine instead. ;)
