Hello We are Australians planning a fall trip of the New England area in early October are thinking of travelling on the Amtrak Vermonter from Burlington to NYC. Is this a good way to see the fall colours or would a bus trip be better?
Which towns would be the prettiest to stay? We love scenery, views, villages, wildlife and would like to have a feel of what New England typically is!
Which stations/towns on the Amtrak Vermonter would be the best for overnight stops for international tourists without a car?
Thanks
Which towns for o/n stopover on train-Burlington to NYC
Well you posted this in NH and the Vermonter does not hit this state although it does slide up the western border of NH near some very nice areas. Public transportation can be pretty sparse unless you are in a major town like Burlington. Depending on where you stop there may be bus tours. There are some foliage excursion trains at this website. http://www.vermontfallfoliage.com/train.html
It all depends on how long the trip will be. In Vt, I think the prettiest towns are Stowe, Manchester, Jamaica, Burlington to name just a few. It certainly is easier with a car though.
